Urban Agriculture

As you may remember the Muskingum SWCD was awarded a $50,000 grant through the NACD’s Urban Agriculture Conservation Grant Initiative. With the grant money the District was able to hire two part-time temporary employees to help establish community gardens in the Putnam Area.

What we’ve been up to:

So far, we have been identifying sites for the new community gardens in the Putnam Neighborhood. One goal for the project is that others will be able to use the resources we compile to start their own gardens in other areas of Muskingum County! Similarly, we are designing a series of workshops to build energy and excitement around community gardening. Finally, we are working to engage the larger local foods movement in Muskingum County so that our economy, our community, and our bodies are better able to thrive! Please don’t hesitate to reach out to use at urbanag@muskingumswcd.org or via phone at (740)454-2027.
