Cover crops have been getting a lot of press the last few years because of their benefits. They reduce soil erosion, capture nutrients left over from the previous crop, and impact soil health through improving biological activity.
The Muskingum SWCD is accepting applications for the 2021 Cover Crop Program. This program is made available through funding provided by The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. The program provides a $12 per acre rate payment toward the planting of cover crops after SOYBEANS or CORN SILAGE.
The program is competitive. Each potential field that is submitted will be scored based on soil type, slope, if soil samples are current, watershed location, and if cover crops were planted the previous year in that field.
Successful applicants will need to follow NRCS seeding rates and seeding date deadlines. Producers MUST supply SOIL TESTS for review with SWCD staff to discuss results. Tests must be within the last four years with at least one test for every 25 acres applied.
Application deadline is June 25, 2021. Application is located below, please return to Melissa Devore at Muskingum Soil and Water Conservation District 225 Underwood St. Ste., 100 Zanesville, Ohio 43701.
